West Side Market

Alana had Saturday off, a rare occurrence, so we seized the opportunity for a trip to the West Side Market. Work gave us free turkeys last week which we thought would be a great chance to try some tweaks to our typical Thanksgiving recipes, but without the pressure of someone besides us having to eat them. Pictured above is the kiosk where we got sausage for our stuffing. I have to say the herbs that came out of my co-worker’s garden were much better than what I bought Saturday. Lastly, it’s not a trip to the market for me if I don’t leave with sauerkraut balls.

We’ve also tentatively planned to try out the ice cream maker attachment I received as a birthday gift from my sister. I was just going to stick to vanilla and serve it over some roasted pears, but I had leftover pecans I’d hate to waste and am making butter pecan instead. The nice thing about the attachment is you have to know at least 15 hours in advance before you make any ice cream, as part of it must be frozen. This means I can’t decide on a whim every night at 9pm that I want homemade ice cream.

I had plans for a lot of work this weekend, most of which were swept away when we bought Lost Season 3. This was probably my least favorite season so far, as the story really didn’t start moving along until the end. So many episodes just seemed like filler with anecdotal characters. Season 4 will be the first time I actually watch it on television, so I’m not quite sure yet how I’ll deal with commercials and a week between episodes.
