Friday night I hung out with some friends. Alana tattooed one of them while I had drinks next door. Much guitar hero was played. Saturday I had lunch with my sister and stepdad at Great Lakes. I ate German food. It was gorgeous out so we got to sit on the patio. I received an ice cream maker attachment for my stand mixer (so psyched) and the Loretta Lynn cookbook. I doubt I’ll ever be making possum, but all the other recipes look delicious.
Sunday we left for Columbus, the rain followed us there and back. Harper barfed in the car, but we were prepared with bags. We went to Schmidt’s (both the Sausage Haus and the Fudge Haus) for dinner. The sausage sampler was awesome, and so was the beer sampler. I have to admit, Braumeister has better sauerkraut balls. We got all kinds of chocolate in their candy shop. The highlight of this trip was a giant photo of Martha Stewart in the Fudge Haus with a sign above it reading “Save Martha.” Later we saw Superbad. I don’t know if teenage movies are becoming more risque or if I’m just turning into a cranky old person. All in all it was as I expected it to be, vaguely misogynist and homophobic, but mostly funny.
Sunday the dogs went for a dip in the pool before it started pouring. We hit up the Used Kids, but it was raining too hard to check out any others. Columbus always floods when it rains hard. We ate lunch at Northstar. The dogs slept in the car the entire ride home. It was a pretty good birthday.

Also purchased: A Figurines LP, a Velocity Girl 7″, and the Belle & Sebastian DVD Fans Only. Sunday was probably the first time in a while I bought a bunch of CDs, and I felt an odd disconnect from them. The packaging is small and unwieldy, and suddenly they don’t seem so portable. I have no desire to flip through a binder of CDs while attempting to drive or anything else. I think all LPs should come with a free download of the album, and then I’d never buy another CD again (except from the used bin.) I like the tangible quality of the LP, the huge art and different types and colors of vinyl. CDs don’t really have much left to offer me. Though, in spite of already having two of these albums on vinyl I was swayed into buying them because of great packaging.
